STATEMENT FROM COMPASS MARINAS
GOVERNMENT PICKS FAVOURS WITH MARINAS, LEAVING BOATIES ALL AT SEA
The Queensland Government has failed to explain why it levied one Scarborough Marina more than twice the rent of its neighbour, and four times the amount
charged at other Moreton Bay Harbours.
After a decade of attempts at negotiation and three years in litigation, we find that the State has failed to meet its written promise that "all boat
harbours would be charged a similar rent".
Compass Marinas this week took the difficult decision to notify its tenants at its Reef Point Esplanade Marina that it will cease operations next month
[March].
We would like to acknowledge the wonderful support of our tenants and those members of the local community who have reached out to us.
Faced with continued unfairness and an unwillingness by the State to negotiate on reasonable terms, Compass Marins was forced to make this difficult
choice.
We share the anger of those boat owners who feel let down by what has happened and we will continue to work with them to find alternative berths for
their vessels.
